About
Cruising Out West: The Podcast
Cruising Out West is a conversational podcast offering a fresh, new generational perspective on music, culture and all things pop. Hosted by Tobi and KP, the podcast is made for the everyday African pop culture lover.
First launched in the thick of the pandemic in July 2020, Cruising Out West is an aural manifestation of Tobi and KP’s lifelong passion for all things music and culture.
“We have always had conversations together about music ever since we met,” they say. While the pair are separated by geographical distance (KP is based in Canada and Tobi, London), they remain connected through social media, their Lagos roots and love for music. Thus, Cruising out West – the title being a subtle nod to their West African origins and diasporic bearings – is an amalgamation of the duo’s unique attributes: Tobi firing things up with spirited, right-winged opinions on
Nigerian entertainment, and KP cooling things down with witty banter.
On each episode, Tobi and KP – along with some invited guests – sit down to dissect recent happenings in the African creative scene, covering everything from The Headies awards show, to the origins of the Alté subculture and even the rapidly growing NFT bubble in Nigeria. The show has been graced by creatives from all walks of life, ranging from musicians to artists, film producers and writers.
In its true essence, Cruising Out West is a melting pot where sharp, social commentary meets authentic African stories. It’s a platform celebrating the dynamism of African creativity, one controversial take at a time.
